Clockwise from bottom left are the names of some of the colors of our fleeces:

Black, Puta, Jaspered Black, Blue, Sombra, Storm, Silver, Pearl, White, White Shell, Adobe, Red Mesa, Jaspered Brown, Rio Grande.

Navajo-Churro wool is used for making many things from Garments to traditional Navajo Rugs, Cinches for saddles, blankets and more. The wool is also used for felting and when dyed takes color very nicely, giving a heathered effect when overdyed on naturally colored wool. It is very easy to handspin.

Colors of lambs are not always what they seem at birth. Black lambs will often turn out to be dark brown when seen in good light. These brown lambs fade to various shades of beige or lighter browns as they age. Blacks fade to greys and silvers.

Patterned lamb colors can usually be determined by the color of the hair on face and legs. A Red or brownish colored lamb is often mistaken as being Brown when in fact it is genetically White with elusive phaeomelanin producing the tan/red color. This color fades quickly and can be very confusing.

Badgerface lambs most often have a great deal of phaeomelanin/tan which makes them appear tri colored - black, brown (tan) and white . The belly and leg color determines if the sheep is Brown, Black or a Grey badger. Facial markings often vary. The same variations are found in the reverse color pattern of the Black and Tan.

Many of the lambs on this farm carry spotting. This makes it hard to identify some patterns when combined with another as in many badgerface, black/brown and tan, lateral stripes or English blue .
